Foundations and Original Identity

The Society of Co-passengers of Christ (CPC) was established by Rev. Dr. Thomas George Valamparambil as a Society of Apostolic Life, dedicated to a mission of service and spiritual fellowship. Originally founded within the Archdiocese of Madras–Mylapore under the patronage of Most Rev. Dr. Arul Das James, the society was initially known as the Missionary Society of St. Francis Xavier (MSFX). This foundational period laid the groundwork for the society’s identity and its commitment to the apostolic life within the Catholic Church.

Diocesan Transition and Official Approval

Following the bifurcation of the Archdiocese of Madras–Mylapore, the CPC transitioned to the newly formed Diocese of Chingleput, where it found a supportive new home. Under the patronship and spiritual guidance of the Bishop of Chingleput, Most Rev. Dr. A. Neethinathan, the society reached a significant canonical milestone. On 30 March 2006, during the Solemnity of the Annunciation, Bishop Neethinathan officially approved the Society’s Constitution, formally consolidating its place within the diocesan structure.

Leadership Succession and Current Administration

To ensure the continuity of the society’s mission before his passing, the founder appointed Rev. Fr. Eljo Felix CPC as the Director General to lead the community into its next chapter. Fr. Eljo Felix CPC guided the society until 20 December 2022, when he submitted his resignation due to health concerns. Following this transition, Rev. Fr. Tenson Francis Kuruppussery CPC was appointed as the Director General, assuming the responsibility of leading the Society of Co-passengers of Christ in its ongoing apostolic endeavors.
